All 679 Ohio municipalities that levy an income tax are included, generated from the Ohio Department of Taxation's own rate file.
What this list tells you
- 679 places in Ohio have a checked local-tax entry. The full set, including zero rates, is here. The count is checked every time the site is built.
- Not finding your town here is good news. Ohio's list is complete, so a missing name means no local income tax at all. Compare that with a site that simply has no data and shows you nothing.
- Ohio does not have one local tax rate. It has a range, from about 0% up to about 3%, and your address decides which end you are on.
- A zero in this table is a real finding. 12 places in Ohio genuinely charge nothing, and we list them so you can see the difference between a checked zero and a blank.
- Ohio's local-tax dataset lists 679 jurisdictions, including places with a verified zero rate. The dataset is generated from the state's own register rather than transcribed, and the page's row count is verified against it on every build.
- Because Ohio's coverage is exhaustive, this table supports a negative claim as well as a positive one. An unlisted address genuinely owes nothing. That is a stronger statement than "we have no figure for you", and the two are indistinguishable to a reader unless a site says which it is offering.
- There is no single Ohio local rate: the distribution runs about 0% to about 3% across the jurisdictions below. Address-level precision is therefore not a refinement here but a requirement, since the error from guessing exceeds the tax itself at the bottom of the range.
- The table includes 12 rows at zero per cent in Ohio. Dropping them would tidy the page and lose information — the reader could no longer tell a jurisdiction verified to levy nothing from one the dataset never covered, which is precisely the ambiguity this family exists to remove.

Questions people ask
If my town is not on this list, does it charge nothing?
It charges nothing. Coverage for Ohio is complete at 679 listed jurisdictions, including any checked zeroes, so absence is a real answer rather than a gap in the data.
Why are some places listed with no rate at all?
Because a zero that was checked is not the same as a blank. Some jurisdictions here are authorized to levy and currently set their rate at nothing — listing them says so explicitly, rather than leaving you to guess whether they were simply missed.
Why are there so many different rates in one state?
Each town can decide for itself. 679 places are listed here, including any that currently charge zero. That is why no single figure describes the state.
Where does this list come from?
From one official publication, cited on this page. A single authority publishing every rate is the easier case — it means one as-of date for the whole table rather than several that may not agree.
What does absence from this table indicate?
Coverage for Ohio is complete: all 679 checked jurisdiction records are included, including any zero-rate entries. Absence from the table therefore indicates no levy rather than missing data. ⚠️ Completeness is asserted against the state's own published list and is re-verified on each data refresh.
Why do some enumerated jurisdictions carry a zero rate?
Certain enumerated jurisdictions are authorized to levy but currently impose a zero rate. They are listed explicitly because a verified zero and an unmodelled jurisdiction are epistemically different, and rendering both as absence would conflate them.
Why is local income taxation this fragmented here?
679 jurisdiction records are published for Ohio, including any verified zero rates. Rates, bases and residency rules are set locally within state enabling statute, so there is no meaningful statewide rate and liability follows municipal boundaries rather than distance.
What is the provenance of this table?
Rates derive from a single published authority with one as-of date covering the whole table. This is preferable to compilation from multiple sources, where differing publication dates cannot be reconciled without asserting currency the sources do not support.
